Let Me Tell You About Our Friends Andrew and Janis

Sometimes all it takes is to be in the right place at the right time to decide to make a life change. Amador County can have that affect. For many of us “flatlanders” that now call Amador home, this little slice of California was the right place at the right time and that is absolutely the case for Andrew Friedlander and Janis Akuna, co-founders of Andis Wines.

While an incredibly successful career in Hawaii already sounds like a dream for a lot of people, all it took was one amazing evening in Amador to decide there was something else. Visiting Amador for the first time while attending a winemaker dinner, the two decided that making wine in Amador would be their next phase in life.

Built in 2010, the Andis winery sits on a hilltop with sprawling views of the Shenandoah Valley. This stunning winery and tasting room is the epitome of contrast between the rural, old-school culture of the county and the application of modern wine-making techniques to produce wines that are helping to put Amador on the wine-making map. Utilizing a myriad of old and new wine-making techniques, Andis produces delicious reds, whites and rosés that reflect Amador’s unique climate and soils.

You can taste Andis Wines and experience their amazing facility and hospitality first hand as part of “Sunday on Your Own” during Come OUT to Amador. You will also get to enjoy Andis wines at as part of various events throughout the weekend. Maybe it will be your visit to Andis during Come OUT that will be the “right place and right time” for you.
